Santa Barbara ceviche as good as it gets!

We needed to get away from the heat and routine of the household so we headed up from LA to Santa Barbara for the day. The weather was about 15 degrees cooler. Santa Barbara is always beautiful with the backdrop of mountains; lush green hillsides speckled with homes and of course the Spanish architecture.los arroyos

What I did not expect to find was one of the best ceviches I have had. My wife was in heaven. Tender cubes of mahi that were “pickled” to perfection. I am guessing that they use the freshest fish soaked in lime juice for just the right amount of time and then rinsed. The result was perfectly pickled but still tender morsels of fish. The lime was there but it was not overwhelming as it often can be in ceviche. The heat was just right. A mild, tongue prickling  jalapeno heat laced with just enough onion and tomato to allow your mouth to play a perfect game of catch with each ingredient. We also had the chorizo and rajas (roasted strips of chiles, in this case pasilla) tacos. The chorizo was not overly spiced and was the most perfectly tender, juicy bits of meat as it should be. The roasted chiles had just a hint of bitterness offset by just the right amount of cheese to bring everything into balance. So often the simplest food is the best.     Hi Jefrey,

    We live in Santa Barbara and we love Los Arroyos as well! Did you try their chips and salsa? They have some of the best chips and salsa I have ever had.

    The next time you and your family come up to Santa Barbara we would love to show you around our town. As a fellow foodie and also a fellow Realtor, I think we would have a great day of it!
